Emergency Dental Services

Medora Dental Care in Abbotsford is available Monday through Saturday for the care and treatment of our many patients. That being said, we understand that dental emergencies often occur outside of regularly scheduled business hours. Although we recommend dealing with any recurring tooth pain right away, it’s important to distinguish the difference between a dental problem and a dire emergency.

Most dental emergencies are the result of severe trauma to the face. However, intense pain as the result of infection can be very serious as well. In any event, call us first! If we’re unavailable, or you’re suffering in the middle of the night, be aware that the following circumstances warrant an immediate a trip to the hospital emergency room.

Couple with beautiful smiles

You’ve Knocked out a Tooth

Believe it or not, it is possible to reattach a tooth that has been knocked out, but time is of the essence (typically 60 minutes to reattach). It is crucial that you handle any avulsed tooth by the crown and not the root. If dirty, gently clean the tooth using a tiny amount of milk or water. Do not allow it to dry! Try inserting the tooth back in very carefully, ensuring it is placed in its correct position (this may be more difficult than you think). If it doesn’t take, keep the tooth in your mouth between the cheek and gum or in a container of milk or in saliva. Whenever possible, do your best to save the intact tooth.

Other Emergencies

Any bleeding that does not stop right away is obviously of serious concern. In such cases, remember to avoid using aspirin or ibuprofen for the pain as these products contribute to further blood loss. As well, if your breathing has been impacted in any way, it’s time to head to the hospital.

Bulges or knots on your gums, pain when biting down and severe swelling around your mouth, face or neck should also be addressed right away.
