Dental implants are artificial roots and teeth implanted into the jaw to replace missing teeth.
Today’s dental implants are durable and feel and function like natural teeth. They are also crafted to shape and enhance your smile even more than the teeth they replace!
Implants can achieve several benefits:
The placement of a dental implant involves a series of visits, starting with an initial consultation where necessary x-rays are taken and making sure the patient is indeed a good candidate for a dental implant. This would mean examining the mouth and x-rays to evaluate the condition of the bone and other teeth. You may also be asked to have a CT scan done to confirm the bone thickness of the jaws as well as define the shape of the bony contours. The actual surgical procedure begins with the preparation of the bone site for placement of the implant. The implant is a titanium metal fixture which serves as an anchor placed into the jawbone. There it will serve as an artificial root for the permanent crown to later be installed. Once in place, the implant usually takes three to six months to fully heal and integrate with the surrounding jawbone. This gives the surrounding bone enough time to form a strong bond with the implant. A temporary crown or temporary denture may be placed over the implant during the waiting time. Impressions of the teeth and gums are taken and then used to create a permanent crown which is fitted to the dental implant once it has healed. It is possible to do a single or multiple teeth depending on what may be needed. The entire procedure usually takes about six to eight months. The success rate for implants is now very high and many patients are finding it the best option for tooth replacement.
